I have had contact with Realtek and Mele weeks ago:
Thank you for the e-mail. We all felt very excited when we found the forum. But I have to say sorry that we can't provide codes or binaries that may work well on your Emtec MovieCube-R100 machine, and I would like to explain why we can't.
Actually we are chip vendor, providing RTD1261 with its reference design to our customers (system makers). Here the reference design includes the hardware (board schematics for reference, board design notes, etc.) and the software (application source codes for reference so that our customers may modify their UI behavior, graphics, remote controller etc by their own). Our customers will change the reference design so that they can differentiate their own product from others who are also using RTD1261. After that, they sell their products to companies such as Emtec, and Emtec sells you the box with their logo. Since system makers have already changed their own design including the board itself and board-related software, therefore, the software on our hand can not run on the customized board for most cases just because they are different.
I think what you need is actually the customized software. Would you please try to contact Emtec to get the source codes? Thank you again.
Thank you for you reply. It is a pitty we can not use the reference drivers because the manufacturar of the board (mele.cn) will not opensource their operating system and will also not release the drivers they used.
So without wanting to annoy you in any way i would really like to ask some more questions to make my problem more solvable. I would like to ask questions about the reference design board.
1. Is the chip RTD1261 responsible for video and audio decoding?
2. What other chips are used, e.g. is network/usb and s-ata also done by the rtd1261?
3. Are there similar chips used in devices available to normal pc's (like soundcards/video(processing)cards)
4. Do you deliver only cpu packages/system boards or do you also supply a Software Developpers Kit (SDK) to the OEM license holders?
5. Are there hardware schematics available without embargo (for users like me)?
And my last question: Is there a small possibility that the reference drivers will become free downloadable (as in released to the open source community)?
I would like to thank you in advance for the time and effort,
Thank you for your message to Realtek.
The answer to your questions,
1.Yes, RTD1261 is responsible for video and audio decoding.
2.Ethernet MAC is in RTD1261 and you need an external Ethernet PHY (for example, RTL8210).
USB2.0 PHY is also embedded in RTD1261. However, if you need more than one USB port, you need an external USB HUB (e.g. GL850) . S-ATA is not embedded. Therefore you need an external S-ATA bridge (e.g. Jmicron JM20330).
3. I'm sorry that I'm not familiar with that.
4. Yes, we do provide the SDK.
Currently we only release the SDK to OEM. I'm not sure whether this will change in the future or not. According to your e-mail, the board is made by mele.cn. Since we believe that it will be good for both the system maker and the end user, we will contact them and try to persuade them to release their software which can run appropriately on their board.
Thank you again and highly appreciated your concern with Realtek.

Then i send an email to Mele.cn because i knew they where OEM
Thanks for your mail.
We have many requests for such open resource and we are also thinking about this.
As you know, the software is very important asset for the company like us. so we need to know more details before we can move ahead.
1.Can you give me more information about yourself and your relationship with this Forum?
2. How many persons like you are in the loop of developing?
3. Could you please send me detailed list of things you want to have?
3. What kind of support do you need from us if we start the cooperation?
4. How can we cooperate?
and after my answer:
Thanks for your information.
We will do some internal review, maybe take sveral weeks.
After we have clear answers, I will keep you updated.
and the last post from 7-4-8
We will get back to you soon, as we want to find a better way to support you.
Would you please give me the contact information of the WIKI?
