Have an existing HMC-3901 running the 2.1 firmware and am seeking to put a new Seagate 1.5tb drive into the unit and have issues.

Hi, got a HMC-3901 with 2.1 firmware and am seeking to do an upgrade from a 500gb to a seagate 1.5tb but am getting errors.

Have tried the 2.1 and 2.08 firmware but on running they find the unit fine but on the install, when it asks about space allocations for the recording partitions and media partitions it has incorrect negative info which is put into the part.txt file. Tried to update these with both percentages and byte allocations etc and have tried USB installs with a number of options.

it either just stalls on the install or comes up with a 'install error, reboot required' and never completes.

Even tried running pc install, update part.txt file and allocated/formated the fat32 & NTFS partitions etc and seemed to get further along but then again failed.

Has anyone got a large disk such as this working and any tweaking required?

I am also having trouble with a usb attached device with a 2TB NTFS partition…. It works when there is not a lot of data on it, but when you fill it up it hangs the M-800DVR… Can anyone help?

Hi,
if you're still interested there's a way I used to make my player work with 2TB HDD:
1) change the "part.txt" file like this:
udf:10000
ext3:512
ext3(2):100
swap:256
udf2:4096
fat32:52%
ntfs:1%
volume1:MULTIMEDIA1
volume2:MULTIMEDIA2
option:install
(no "res" used/sum of all sizes is less than 1TB(100% is cca 1.86TB))
2) install the fireware
3) connect the HDD to your PC and run gpartition (I have used USB with http://www.sysresccd.org/)
4) move the lase partition to the end of the HDD
5) extend the partition with fat32 and ntfs in it
6) extend the ntfs

Note: I have used "ntfs:1%" and it took some time to extend it. maybe you should use smaller size.
