Hi all. I just received my ME2 1000HD. My question is how can I set a password on any NAS folder ? There will be folders without password and some with password.
I just toyed around a little with the samba implementation on my chiligreen.
There are some tools missing and I wasn't able to create a working smbpasswd file.
I've also tried to allow access only to certain usernames, but that didn't work either.
If anyone with greater samba knowledge than me could give some advice on how to configure authentication.
It should definitely be possible to password protect the samba shares.
I don't realy know, but I think, you must set a user with Password and change smb.config guest ok = no
I found this on board.gulli.com:
8. Passwort vergeben Per Telnet einloggen und: echo "extern:Wrrsi4PbgAAMA:0:0:root::/bin/sh" >> /etc/passwd Jetzt hast du einen User: BN=extern Passwort=otto P.S: Der User hat auch root Rechte. Eigene Passwörter kannst du unter http://home.flash.net/cgi-bin/pw.pl generieren.
The example generates an user extern with password otto.
Hmm ok, maybe I thought way too complicated but on the Internet I read Windows greater 2k could only work with encrypted passwords on smb shares. So I didn't even try unencrypted samba passwords and tried the hard way with a seperate password file where you put NTLM Hashes. But the Samba implementation of busybox seems not to support that.
Thought this is encypted? Try the example and if it works make your own password.
P.s. early versions of Firmware had a parent control build in.
