Is the firmware of emtec usable for the plextor mx1000l

Hello,
A year ago I bought a plextor mediax 1000l. ([http://www.plextor-europe.com/products/plextor_mediax/px-mx1000l.html]) In the manual plextor said that firmware update could come. However 1 year later there are still no updates.(I even wrote a mail to plextor 2 weeks ago about this and they didn't even answer.) The plextor mx1000l is also a realtek rtd1261.
Is it possible to use the emtec firmware update on the plextor? and are there risks involved in updating the firmware?

With kind regards

Despite any firmware upgrade, my HMC3901 is too slow when talking about sending files through the lan connection. i'm actually testing and it goes 160kbps (around 2Mbits per second) through a 30m cat5 cable. Does anybody knows if this can be fixed to work faster (it is supposed to be 10/100mbps)? does anybody gets faster speeds?

Hi, got a HMC-3901 with 2.1 firmware and am seeking to do an upgrade from a 500gb to a seagate 1.5tb but am getting errors.

Have tried the 2.1 and 2.08 firmware but on running they find the unit fine but on the install, when it asks about space allocations for the recording partitions and media partitions it has incorrect negative info which is put into the part.txt file. Tried to update these with both percentages and byte allocations etc and have tried USB installs with a number of options.

it either just stalls on the install or comes up with a 'install error, reboot required' and never completes.

Even tried running pc install, update part.txt file and allocated/formated the fat32 & NTFS partitions etc and seemed to get further along but then again failed.

Has anyone got a large disk such as this working and any tweaking required?

A thread on the differences and findings of this RTD1261 based device.

 <wikidot:authorName>CojonesDeToro</wikidot:authorName> <wikidot:authorUserId>362805</wikidot:authorUserId>

I wanted to start a thread specific to this device so I can post my findings and hopefully encourage others to do the same:

Partitions

For some reason this devices insists on creating both a Fat32 and NTFS partition. I'm not sure why.

telnet to the box and log in as root with no password

Settings things at Startup

It seems that this device has a read-only root filesystem. I was not successful in Trying to mount it as read/write however I did find a few things:

The files in /usr/local/etc will persist across reboots.

/usr/local/etc/rcS is a startup script that can be edited. I changed mine to have this as the last line:

/usr/local/etc/startup &

This will run a new script in the background so it cannot stop the rcS script from finishing. This is a safety measure in case I add something the prevents the unit from finishing a boot or restarting.

My /usr/local/etc/startup script currently looks like this:

#sleep two minutes so I have time to log in and edit or delete this file if it causes problems on boot.
sleep 120
mkdir /tmp/hdd/volumes/smb
mkdir /tmp/hdd/volumes/smb/public
mkdir /tmp/hdd/volumes/smb/pubreadwrite
#run mount in background in case it hangs
mount //192.168.x.x/public /tmp/hdd/volumes/smb/public -t cifs -o username=Realtek_guest &
#seems to not like two mount commands running at the same time.
sleep 5
mount //192.168.x.x/pubreadwrite /tmp/hdd/volumes/smb/pubreadwrite -t cifs -o username=Realtek_guest &

This makes it so my SMB shares are always mounted and accessible on the same path has my drive.

Web Server

The web server HTML and CGI scripts posted here seem to work but they disappear on a reboot. I might keep the files elsewhere and soft link /tmp/www on startup or maybe copy the files on startup. (I might also take a crack at translating them to English :-) )

That's all I have found for now since I've only had the device for 1 day. I have not tried the chroot environment yet but it looks interesting.

It seems that the NTFS partition is read only. What if I unmount the NTFS partion, make a fat32 partion on it and remount?

It looks like the mkdosfs command can do this.

Has anyone tried this?

Disregard. The device allows you to dedicate 100% of disk to fat32. Of course you are then limited to <4GB files but I can deal with that.

Here's a neat trick: you can send commands to the device using telnet on another linux machine line this:

This will output the time on the media player

(echo root; sleep 2 ; echo date ; sleep 2)| telnet 192.168.x.x

This thing uses a weird MAC address. 00:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF

I'm thinking that this must be set in software and is probably the same address on every unit. That means you gotta separate these things via a IP gateway if you expect to use more than one at home. Two of them probably won't work on the same broadcast domain.

I have tried to change the MAC address using the "ifconfig hw ether" command but it doesn't seem to work.

I'm new to working with RTD1261, but I'm eager to learn. I've 11 years of experience of using Linux and as a programmer.
What I'm looking for is some basic information on what I can do with my Abigs D5. Which libraries do you recommend, what cross-compiler do you recommend, and what changes do you recommend, etc.
Are there some programming projects that you think I should look at?

So far I have seen that my Abigs D5 is very similar to Official Emtec firmware, just more outdated.
It runs on a 200Mhz MIPS 4KEc version 6.4 and has 64mb ram. The OS is 2.6.12.6-VENUS Linux kernel and it has uClibc-0.9.28.

Maybe I've bitten off more than I can chew. But I'm always doing that and have lived to tell many tales. So I proceed. :)

I've been asked to look at developing new s/w for a brand new rtd1262-based box (no brand names!) and have been looking at it for a few weeks now. Finally starting to gain a bit of traction.

After looking at the "install" procedure, I'm now concentrating on the Realtek "BIOS" to see how to dump in a new linux kernel, and maybe a jffs2 root instead of the squashfs non-writable thing that's in there now.

And after that little job I'll have to start seriously looking at decrypting key parts of the DvdPlayer app. With 2.6 million lines of MIPS assembler, I'm calling on AI help to sort out what was part of the C library or other "uninteresting" stuff (since the thing was statically linked and then had all symbols and debug stuff removed), and what actually makes the thing go.

So far the "strings" extracted show quite a bit is done using the old Linux standby of calls to system("…"). :)

If anyone is playing with or interested in a similar box, feel free to contact me either here or on the email.

I have recently added instructions for adding SSH and FTP (using VSFTP instead of the FTP found here) to my blog at http://consumerelectronicshacker.blogspot.com and I wanted to share it here because I believe it will work more devices than just the ScreenPlay. The script to do the install will probably NOT work on other devices because it depends on the hard drive to be mounted at specific locations. But I've added enough comments in the script to indicate what is happening that anybody should be able to manually install.

VSFTP is way faster than the FTP already found here, so well worth checking out. I did SSH at the request of somebody else. It works well as a telnet replacement, but is much slower for file transfer.

I've downloaded few movies on MKV format, but the firmware doesn't play it. I've tried to change it to .avi files but the codecs didn't change (codecs AVC or HDsomenumbers) so I can't still play it. Do you got any clues about what can I do?

Thank you so much!

Hi,

After searching for a firmware for my old Movie Cube R 500Gb (HW model: RTD 1261, older from 2007) and not found it on emtec website, I've seen that the updated firmware 2.0.9up for R100 model is compatible and it works like a charm. So, I've updated the Movie Cube.

After that, I've seen this web to do some useful "things" to this toy.

The first think that I've tried to do is to change the predefined desktop but without success. This are my steps:

1. telnet with PuTTy and root acces. This is ok. I've see the mounted partitions and folders.
2. access to /usr/local/bin/Resources and edit with vi "swconfig.ini" file
3. change with vi "sustom_id = 1" parameter to 2, 3 or 6 ("sustom_id = 6", for example)
4. exit Putty.
5. turn off movie cube.

After this "little" change, I can not do ANYTHING with movie cube. It gets hanged (turns on but no Guide menu nor other options; also the "blue LEDs" are always on). The only thing to recover it is re-installing again the firmware 2.0.9up (no Wired LAN access with telnet either).

Any suggestion of what I am doing wrong?

Regards.

PD: Good work with so useful discussion!!!

I have a unit that uses the RTD1261 chip. It is by a company called Dayfly Tech. I bought it on ebay as a model DY-T60 but it is listed on the Dayfly Tech website as a CS-T60R (hxxp://www.dayflycn.com/Product_Info.asp?productID=609).

By comparing user manuals, it uses identical firmware as the Emperex ME1. I cannot find a firmware version, as hitting display twice (as you do with the me1) is disabled. I tried updating it using the new me1 firmware, and it seems to go through the process fine, but in the end it restarts and is back to the same firmware. The directory structure appears to be the same as me1, right down to the "A simple html+cgi example" web site. All software is installed to firmware, nothing is stored on the hard drive. BusyBox is v1.1.3 (2007.12.17-06:34+0000).

I'm looking for information that might help me to update or modify this thing, as the firmware suffers all the problems as the earlier me1. I'd also like to offer any information I can to anyone interested in this piece of hardware.

PS: Emails to Dayfly Tech regarding firmware updates have gone unanswered.

Hi,

My brother got one of this media boxes for holidays, specifically a Woxter i-Cube X-DIV 35 XP Rec Lite, which seems to be based on chipset RTL1262 (not RTL1261, I know). The problem is that we want to use NTFS partition through Samba, but as you know NTFS partition is read only for the device.

Playing with the device I think I have found a method to change that partition from NTFS to ext3, so it can be written through Samba, but I don't wont to try it yet, because Woxter have not released any firmwares and I don't wanna brick my device (the device is in read-only mode, except some things, so this would involve writting directly to the flash).

But in the case I didn't find some method or Woxter didn't release any firmware I have send them an email arguing about the GPL-derived binaries I have found, and that they should offer their clients the source code. Picture me surprised when I get an email back saying that they will give me a CD with the source code.

So I have the CD, which came with three files: linux-2.6.12.tar.bz2, RTD1262_APP_GPL.tar.bz2 and RTD1262DTV_APP_GPL.tar.bz2. I have uploaded those three files to my personal server at <http://ruido-blanco.net/descargas/rtd1262/>, so you can download them.

As far as I can see, RTD1262_APP_GPL have the source code for freetype-2.3.5, jpeg-6b, HTTPC (seems to be from here <http://www.webdav.org/neon/>), libPNG, miniupnp (from here <http://miniupnp.free.fr/>), zlib-1.2.3, database? (seems relate to <http://ebase.sourceforge.net/>, and have one doc in Chinese), mp3info (seems to have something to do with <http://sourceforge.net/projects/mplib>), qDecoder (<http://www.qdecoder.org/>), Samba 3.0.23c, SQLite 3.3.7 and 3.5.4, upnp2_lib and upnp3 (with some files marked as INTEL CONFIDENTIAL… umm, maybe they didn't mean to give me that), and wpasupplicant-0.5.8.

RTD1262DTV_APP_GPL have a lot of the libraries from the one above, but they are different source code (not all different, little parts, mostly paths, but some source code too). There are also some "libraries" not found in the other file: A library for IPC (Sun RPC), some library to read INI files (seems to be libini <http://sourceforge.net/projects/libini>), InputVCD (seems to come from Xine project), libdvdread and libdecss (from <http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/groups/dvd/> and VideoLAN project) and udfaccess (I don't know where that come from).

The kernel file seems to be a 2.6.12 kernel slightly modified. They include all the config files, so a "make" with the good compiler chain should give us the same kernel our devices have. I have diffed the source with an official 2.6.12 kernel and there are also differences in some source files.

What can we do from here? Well, not much. The "real" program is still closed source (maybe it should not be, because they are compiling statically with GPL code, but they will probably don't think the same). The Linux kernel is more interesting, if we can compile it with new modules we can make other USB WiFi dongles work, and (as I hope) compile FUSE and NTFS-3G for our devices.

I know many of you might say that this is for another device, but maybe the kernel they use is the same, or maybe they have left the old RTD1261 sources around. But my main pourpose is that this code gets circulation in the comunity. Maybe somebody can tell where else can I post the links and this little information.

Thank you very much and sorry for the extension.

Greetings,

Just bought from South Korea an Abigs Multimedia Player. The player is based on Realtek RDT1261 chip and the board is *almost* identical to the Emprex shown in this site. The odd thing i noticed is that the firmware for this player is 30Mb in size and uses a USB stick to update/install.

I am still exploring this new player and currently loves this. The only issue is the response of the remote, which you have to press a key twice/thrice to make it work.

Anyway, just wanted to share to you a new player based on the Realtek chip.

Another thing, can someone tell me if I can create a PERL/CGI script to upload files to this player? Currently the player has a webserver built-in and comes with a sample webpage to add 2 numbers. Maybe someone can point me to a resource on how to create a file upload CGI script that is compatible with the system.

Thanks.

Maverick

P.S.: You can check out the player by going to www.sarotech.com and look for the model "3.5 abigs (D5)".

Hello,
I removed ads from a movie I recorded on TV, when I tried to export it on the fat 16 partition I can see one file with the mediaHDD but 2 files with my computer. Seems like the file is splited at the ads…
Is it normal or do I have to change something ?

Thanks
Tibeau

I created an Ad-Hoc WLAN with my ET-1715 and it works fine. Now I wanted to integrate it into my home WLAN which is WPA encrypted. But the configuration interface only allows passwords of the form [A-Za-z0-9]. But my password contains signs like % $ etc…

Is there a way to enter the password via Putty? Or get the file where it is saved?
Thanks very much in advance!

hi,
what do you think about installing a media center software on the drive? with debian mips chrooted environment it should be possible, the question is if all devices are recognized by the media center (like mythtv). would be a very nice feature for the drive and give us the opportunity to participate from other projects which develop plugins (like youtube) as well.

cheers

hi,

is it possible to get the usb connected devices mounted as read-writeable by hotplug? I added /mnt/usbmounts to my samba config but can't write to the devices, so I checked "mount" and saw that they are all mounted RO.

when I remount them with mount -o remount,rw /…. everything works fine, but I don't want to login to console every time I want to copy some files :/

thx,
dominikx

Hi. I have a Medley HDMR+, that is a clone of the Hellion 700. A couple of days ago I received a strange error during start up, saying something like "UDF partition error". Now I can't record video from the TV (every time I try to record a video, the software restarts).
I think something happened with the UDF partitions and the vr_ifo_mmap.dat file that can be found in /tmp/hdd/root/recovery.
Is there a way to rebuild those files (that are indexes on my recorded videos) without reinitializing the whole HDD?

Thank you very much.
Pierpaolo

I've been working my way through the Iomega ScreenPlay Pro HD media player when I was pointed to this wiki. I've tried a few things on the screenplay pro which I think will probably generate interest.

I was able to put the FTP binaries on my drive and appear to be able to access the drive through FTP now. So feeling good about the binaries, I went exploring for more binaries.

On the "Linux" page, it points to a now expired bookmark about getting the root_fs_mipsel image. Well, the image has been moved. But in the binaries directory on that site, there is a system-image-mipsel.tar with a recent upload date. I pulled this down, mounted it in my ScreenPlay Pro (SPP) and chroot to it. I was able to create a simple HelloWorld app, exit out of the chroot mode, and execute the binary. Now, that isn't conclusive as to how in sync the libraries are with Iomega's versions, but I think that's a good sign that it was able to do that.

Not willing to try flashing a new firmware into it. The media player on the drive appears to be "DvdPlayer" which is started up in the drive when you boot it.

One of the primary things driving me to research this stuff is the fact that the drive has a very severe flaw: It appears to have a 2 gb limit sending the files to the drive. This limit is really strange, because it's not found everywhere.

For instance, I can write a larger file to the drive going through the USB port and hooking the drive up as a mounted NTFS drive in windows. It can play the file w/o problems. But if I try to view the file, either through the samba share, or through the FTP found at this site, it won't even list the file. However, the drive can browse to another computer on the network, mount the drive as type CIFS and have no problem pulling down a file greater than 2 GB, although it takes an inordinately long time.

Anyway, now you know why I'm here, and expect to see future contributions from me.

Hi,
Recently my brother bought a Plextor MediaX.
We both agreed that the GUI could be better, and so we decided to try to hack it.
There had to be some kind of system on it, most likely Linux.
After many attemps to get in the sytem, I tried to telnet to it.
It workt ! And the root user din't even have a password.
In curiosity in ran the command

#cat /proc/cpuinfo

to find what cpu it had.
After typing the name of the processor in google, I found this marvelouse website.
Here is some info about the plextor :

It has its operating files in the flash, just like the Ellions.
Here is some system and hardware information :

/ # dmesg 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 a1 c5 60 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 eth0 Regs : 0xb8016200 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 32 00 10 00 00 01 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 eth0 RxFDP : 0xa1c56000 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 alloc rings cp->rxdesc_buf =0xa1c56000 init_hw eth0: link down generic_ide_resume eth0: link up, 10Mbps, half-duplex, lpa 0x0021 ide_dma_speed: hda: mode 0x04, speed 0x44 XFER_UDMA_4 Restarting tasks... done [USB] NOT Setup GPIO yet, platform_info.board_id = 0x20008!!!
Hello!

I just stumbled across another RTD1261-based mediaplayer at www.pearl.de, the "auvisio G-252", which seems to be the same as the "Foretoon FET-331".

It's features look much the same as the "Emtec Movie Cube R-100", but with display and S-VHS.

Do you know anything about it's compatibility, especially getting a SAMBA- or FTP-server to work?

Thank you very much!

René

auvisio G-252 at pearl.de
Foretoon FET-331 at made-in-china.com
Foretoon FET-331 at bikudo.com

Hi,

just bought an IcyBox Mediaplayer with HDMI output for 130€.
It obviously is RTD1261 based and I can easily log into the system using telnet.
Did not tweak things up to now.

Some questions and ideas to the forum:
1) Who wrote and distributes the program DvdPlayer which (next to busybox) does all the work?
2) What do you think: will it be possible to get a webbrowser either integrated to DvdPlayer or running as a standalone application?
3) What about connecting a USB-Keyboard?
4) This little thingy could make a nice machine for video chat. What do you think?

Cheers

Michael

I found out how to get to the remote control:
1. kill RootApp
killall -SIGKILL RootApp
2. kill DVDPlayer
killall -SIGKILL DVDPlayer
3.
you can read /dev/venus_irrp which is remote control

it might be useful to delete this device and make a fifo so you can send controls from console. and it might be possible to write a program which can tweak DVDPlayer to play specific music file by sending this commands.

We have to find out how to use codecs. This would be even more efficient.

I don't know how to publish this here.

How to see HDD info on EMC R100?
How to correct partition problem?

Hello!

Step by step I'm discovering my R100 features..
At the moment I have upgrade it to latest 2.09 firmware and have some problem.
My idea was to have just one multimedia partition FAT 32. So i modify part.txt

udf:res
ext3:512
swap:128
udf2:4096
fat32:90%
volume1:EMTEC

Update goes well, and I have just one big partition, looking in R100 browser.
But some strange thing is present in NAS.
I still see in NAS Part1 and Part2 from PC. The Part1 is that fat32 big partition that i made. But Part2 can't read. It's seems that samba on EMC still mount or mapped two partition that I have before. It's like default config or whatever. I tried to reinstall with options:install… i tried from USB and PC.. result the same. Still see this part2 in NAS. While on R100 browser, just one partition. Is it possible to fix?

And second problem: I can't find the way to see HDD/Partition info from r100 menu. Before (with two fat32 partition) I remember, when i move to the browser and HDD, at the some point i can see at the right DHH info, like Fat32, Free spase and so on… now with just one, I can't see it.

I'm not so guru in Linux… but PC and MAC. Can telnet to there.. any idea, how to correct this situation.

Than you.

PS. Could be for some interest. If I add to part.txt
option:install
my upgrade back with errore all the time.
So u have to right it
Option:install
Capital letter in "Option" make difference at least for me and install go well after.

Hello,

just got my R100 250GB (still in box)…
one of the point to buy was to use it as kind of NAS for data store.
I'm working on Mac OSX Leopard.. and there is nice Time Machine (backup soft).
Is anybody tried to set it to work with R100? Any success..?
Thank you..

Ok, It's work…
The only think you will need is type this in terminal
"defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1"

And start your Time Machine.. you will see Partition 1 of your Emtec Cube ready to go!

But i have some other Q,
My R100 has 2.07 firmware is new and it has two partition fat32.
The NAS is already available. I can se it in Finder and connect by typing smb:\\192.168…..

So dose it mean that Samba is already there? Can I just madify a config to set a password or do auto USB mount?

Also the file transfer by my Wi-Fi from PowerBook to R100 connected to router is about 2.4 Mb/s. Will it be increased if I set FTP server?

Thank you.

In the Manuals are other Pictures and i can not edit the movie (cut, sort, …).

Is this Box compatible with a firmware of a other BOX?

thx
BiGH03
